History & Science

Last week in history we learned about Christianity coming to Britain.

We learned that St. Augustine was sent to Britain to convert the Saxons to Christianity.

We read about the lives of monks, medieval monasteries, and how their books were made.

In Science we learned about the 4 layers of the Earth , crust, mantle, outer core, and inner core.

Mish Mash of Stuff!

Caitlin is working on reading pictographs and even/odd numbers in math. We made a pictograph with fictitious data, picking a favorite day of the week for 26 people.

She learned that you cannot divide an odd number into two equal halves, while an even number means you can.
Jayden spent the week working on multiplying multiple digits. I downloaded several worksheets from Math Aids to help him practice. I would like for him to master it before we move on to the next section.
In Language Arts we learned that commas break up a sentence.
Sunday was football evaluations for Jayden.
Surprisingly, Caitlin said she wanted to play Flag Football too. So we signed her right up.

This weekend the kids both have a belt test. Jayden even has to write a paper for it, in order to move on to his green belt. Cross your fingers and toes that they pass!

Happy Friday!

Field Trip! "Fall Back in Time"

This week the kids went with homeschooled friends to the Strawbery Banke Museum. Both Juan and I had to work so we couldn't make the trip. Luckily we had some friends who were able to take our kids along. (None of these pictures are mine! Photo cred goes to Larissa & Hayzel :)

The kids got to bake sugar cookies on an old fashioned cookstove. Jayden also got to make a replica of one of the houses he was in during an architecture class. They dressed up in historical clothing, weaved with looms, and made crafts!

Flags & Heels & a New Pet!

Last week Jayden started flag football. He is soooo excited!!

According to him, Jayden plans on teaching me "techniques" to help me with my game.

And this little girl's dreams finally came true! She is taking a ballet/tap class.

Unfortunately her class is upstairs, in a room that parents can only view through a camera (set up on a television screen). I heard nothing except the sound of metal tapping on the floor, and could not get any good pictures of her during dance. When I asked her what her favorite part was she said "Everything! Especially the heels on my tap shoes!"

One of our favorite parts of last week was adding this little guy, Max, to our family!

He was a little shy at first, but made he made himself quite comfortable within a few hours!

Math, LA, & DIY

This week Jayden has been learning how to multiply with more than one digit on top and bottom.

For some reason he was so excited to learn it.

Cait has mastered her +0 facts, +1 facts, and doubles facts (up to 10 + 10). She also learned to identify ordinal position to twelfth and can determine elapsed time (by one hour).

We borrowed the audio book of The Mysterious Benedict Society to help us along on car rides. It is an extremely long book, so the audio book has helped us a lot!

This week we reviewed capital letters, question marks, and exclamation points.

We also went over compound words & pronouns.

And finally, we had co-op day. Our theme was "Games". A few of us worked together to cut out interesting pictures from nature magazines. We then pasted them on card stock to make an "I Spy" game.
