Yesterday & Today!

Yesterday on our way to a local play place for Science class, we ran into this little guy!

When we got home we did a little bit of research on the internet to learn more about it. Using this link, we found out more about the caterpillar, which we learned becomes a Pyrrharctia isabella - Isabella Tiger Moth.

During science class the kids made lava lamps. Cait made a red one and Jay made a blue one. The lava lamps were made with water, oil, kosher salt, food coloring and glitter! The tops were hot glued shut to prevent spilling.

 Today C did some tracing,

and J worked on his spelling words.

Upset that her fingers were dirty from the marker

J still working on his spelling words

C moved on to her bead work. This project keeps her entertained foreverrrrrrrrrr!!!!! I love it! And so does she!

When J finally finished, he worked on unscrambling his spelling words.

Then he did an addition worksheet
while C finished her bead work.

Being silly!

The end!!

Bingo Dots and Candy Corn!

Here is how our day went:

Cait practiced writing the number 1.

J worked on his first set of spelling words for this week. While he can definitely read these words, spelling practice can never hurt. He also gets to practice his penmanship.

Cait worked on tracing a circle.

"Mommy, I did it!!"
Then J worked on some math. Since he was subtracting numbers less than 10, I gave him candy corn to use as a math manipulative. He LOVED it!

"Mom, I have an idea! How about I eat all of the candy corn after each math problem and you keep giving me more!"

Cait practiced writing the letter Aa.

Then she did a puzzle!

Then she did a Princess dot page with the Bingo ink we bought recently. This helps teach her one to one correspondence. She had to put one dot in every circle on the page.

J continued to work on his math... and munch on candy corn! He must have sneaked a couple of pieces too many because he was seriously HYPER!
Then C worked with her beads, placing each color into a different spot with the tweezers.

Jayden started learning about vowels and consonants.

Then he picked the vowels out of his spelling words.
 Another successful day down!

Today was a relaxed day for J. He has learned how to put together a 48 piece puzzle by himself. This is the second time he has done it alone!

In the first and second picture you can see that the edges weren't aligned so he had made a mistake. By the third picture he figured it out (by himself).

While putting on the last piece he said "Ok mom, this is the last one. Please don't embarrass me. Just clap quietly..."
Of course I celebrated loudly! LOL!

Meanwhile, C and I went through her alphabet book

We went through every page and named everything we saw. We practiced our letters and the sounds they make.

I'm also putting together new workbooks for them. I made them with printables from another homeschooling blog Confessions of a Homeschooler. I have also signed up for another website that has over 14,000 worksheets for grades K-6!

So far I have these made up:

C will use them as a tool for alphabet/number/shape recognition and J will use them to practice his penmanship.

Science, Art & Soccer!

Today we went to our local play place for a science class and some art fun!

At first they used the magnifying glass wrong but by the end they got it. They looked at rocks, leaves, shells and pinecones!

Then we headed over to the art section. They cut straight lines through the paper.

 Well she tried...

And finally, J's soccer picture came in!
