Jayden is 9!

My amazing, awesome, wonderful, fantastic son is now 9 years old, 1 year away from double digits, as he likes to remind me.

Playing charades

We went out to his favorite local diner for breakfast, per his request.
Then we surprised him by heading to a local pinball arcade.

The best part was some of our awesome friends joined us to celebrate his birthday, which he totally loved!

He wanted a Batman cake that "looked really cool" but couldn't have "too much frosting, because that's gross and gives me a stomachache, mom!" We go to the farmers market every Sunday and always stop for baked goods at Frost This Cakes. We asked her to make a birthday cake with Jayden's requests and this is the awesome cake she came up with! It was DELICIOUS!

I am so grateful for all of the people who helped make Jayden's birthday special! Thank you! <3

February

In February we learned about Alexander the Great's bravery and his ability to tame the wild stallion Bucephalus to make him his own horse.

We learned about the places Alexander managed to conquer, as well as how his empire was divided after his mysterious death.

Of course we made our own Bucephalus Stick Horse.

And what is a horse without a couple of knights?
We also read about the People of the Americas.

In this chapter we learned that the Nazca lived in South America. They made enormous drawings on the ground. Some of the drawings included spiders, monkeys, birds, and flowers. The kids made their own Nazca paintings. First they drew a picture with white crayon on white paper, then we used water colors to "decode" their pictures.

In science we learned about the water cycle. We watched the Magic School bus episode "Wet All Over".

Miscellaneous pictures from this month include art:

and, of course, Valentine's Day!
