Museum & Tball

This week we visited a museum for a class discussing the Merrimack River. It was the first time seeing our friends after nearly two weeks! When Olivia saw Jayden, she hugged him and told him he is the best. Jayden hugged her back and said she is the best dinosaur expert. It was really so adorable.

Jayden has been asking me about his friends nearly every day, so I am glad he got to see them today. Cait was interested in one person attending today: baby Rachel!

After the initial excitement of seeing everyone, we settled down to look at a map, discuss the uses of water from the river, drew pictures of the river and what people do in it, went "fishing", had a snack, and ran around in the hot sun.

Jayden drew a man in a boat fishing. The bottom of his picture says "3-1=2" because the fisherman caught 1 fish and had 2 left in the river to catch.

Cait drew me (the little pink figure with a ponytail) standing in water. I am taking a bath in the river.

Cait really loved this dress, solidifying my theory that she is indeed an old soul.
The children went "fishing" with magnets, paper fish, and paper clips (for the magnets to attract).

Snack time!
A meetup wouldn't be a meetup of these three boys didn't run around acting like superheroes!

This was the main view I had of Jayden. He was having way too much fun running around to be bothered to smile for the camera!

The kids had a fabulous time! The whole ride home they both spoke about how much fun they had.

Later on in the afternoon/evening, J had a tball game.

Waiting for tball to start:

Another hit!

I truly enjoy watching my children's personalities and interests develop. They are really remarkable little people!

We are restarting Dinosaurs Before Dark (book 1 in The Magic Treehouse series). I wanted to read it to J & C but there are lesson plans that go along with it so I decided to let Jayden try reading it to us. He did SO amazing with his reading! I am so proud of where he is at!

He will be reading two chapters out loud at a time. Then we will follow up with questions for him to answer in order to make sure he is comprehending his reading.

Answering questions about ch. 1 & 2 of Dinosaurs Before Dark

Cait practicing her penmanship by writing her name

We updated our board again!

Cait practicing her penmanship writing the number 4
Cait playing her dinosaur game. I didn't expect it to be such a big hit but she really loves it!

Jayden drawing a picture and writing a sentence to describe his favorite part of ch. 1 & 2
Cait sat to watch Leapfrogs Amazing Alphabet Amusement Park.

And Jayden did some math review work.

We recently found out that Time 4 Learning has the option of an annual membership. We love this program so much that we opted to sign up for it! Jayden is only a few lessons away from completing the entire 1st grade curriculum of Language Arts. We started first grade January 31st! We still have plenty of math left so once we finish Language Arts, we will just move on to second grade for that portion. I love how he can go at his own pace in different subjects! Isn't homeschooling amazing?!?! :)

Cait's back at it!

Because Cait is only 3 1/2 we pretty much only do actual sit down work whenever she asks for it. She goes through spurts where she doesn’t want to do any work to where she does everything I had planned for a week, in one day! This week she had one of those days where she wanted to do a lot of work!

We started off with me calling out letters A-M and her searching for them using her Melissa & Doug Magnetic letters. (Now I see there are 2 D’s and no I!)

Then she did the dot-a-dot page for the letter D which we got from Confessions of a Homeschooler. We got pretty much all of todays worksheets from this site.
 Pretending to eat the donut!

She worked on a dinosaur pattern

 Did some writing practice
 Put dinosaurs in size order

And a dinosaur game. I laminated the sheets with dinosaurs and the numbers for durability. One row had a different number of dinosaurs and the other row was blank. She had to match the number to the amount of dinosaurs. She did very well!

Jayden, being the awesome big brother that he is, decided to pretend he didn’t know how to count and asked Cait to “teach him” which helped her get more counting practice in.
