Field Trip! The Topsfield Fair (1 of 2)

We recently went to the Topsfield Fair. I took nearly 100 pictures so I am breaking this field trip into two posts.

Here are the kids eating lunch and waiting for an elephant show to begin.
The day we went we met Buella, a 44 year old elephant. She played Simon Says with her caretaker.
Of course we stopped and took pics in every one of these we found.

There was a man making a really cool sand sculpture.

The kids got to make their very own wax candles.

 We watched sheep get shaved.

We saw lots of pumpkins decorated in cute characters.

We saw this GIANT pumpkin, which weighed in at 1,746.5 lbs.
These two sculptures below were made of food!

School is going really well! Caitlin is loving practicing her writing. She is still picking two sentences to write and tries to come up with outrageous things.

She is flying through her Bob books too!

Jayden is continuing to amaze me with his school work.

He is still working on his multiplication and division and is constantly thinking about math.
For their creative writing class the kids had an assignment to create a monster. They LOVED this assignment!!

Jayden's monster:

I am a zombie. I was born in the very first day of the very first year. My hobbies are when I go outside to eat my friends. I love to eat computers too!

I am afraid of light and I am afraid of my reflection.

My name is The Unliving Dead.

I have one eyeball in the middle of my whole face. I also have two arms in the middle of my whole chest. I have no teeth. My skin is blue and red. It goes in a pattern. Head blue, chest red, legs blue, feet red, arms blue, eye red, hands red, shoes black. I am bald.

This is me screaming because there is a light on me and I see my reflection in the window of a house.

Caitlin's monster: I am a vampire named BugPink Vampire. I was born a long time ago on March 23, 16. I love to drink blood. I love to eat, especially children. I love to read and go jogging. I love to paint my nails black.

I am scared of spiders. I hate apples but I love to dig in them and take out the seeds and eat them.

I have a black afro. My skin is very white. I have big bones and am very tall. My teeth are sharp and yellow. My neck is soooooo big. My nails bleed when I go in the sun. My legs are the same size. I wear a very long cape.

I have lots of friends. My best friend is a red werewolf with a mohawk. His name is ScreamBot. I have an enemy named RocketBot. He is a bat but I can never find him without a map. His face is sad.

Library & Legos!

Jayden participated in an art class that meets once a month. He learned about abstract art. Parents don't go in the class and Jayden was not interested in having me there (*sigh*) so Cait and I hung out in the library while we waited. Once they were done we walked over to the room and saw the kids chit chatting.

Jayden explaining to me what abstract art is)
Jayden said he created a hot air balloon with a machine gun turret on top. I have to be honest and I don't know where the eff he sees that, but hey, I guess he gets the concept of "abstract art", right?
Jayden also had his Lego class. He and Hayzel were partners that day, working on something. I wasn't there so I have an excuse for my lack of detail.

What I can tell you was it had something to do with gears and hammers. The boys each built a part of the hammer and had to see how many times they had to tap something or other for something to happen. Like I said, I wasn't there.
Cait doesn't get to participate (she is too young), but she tags along and sits in the back with some form of entertainment.

Respiratory System

It's been 10 days since my last update!! Things have been SUPER busy here, but rest assured, school has NOT been put on the back burner. Only the blog has. But I have a ton of posts coming to update you on the fabulousness that has been happening here!

We recently worked on the respiratory system.
The kids followed the lab directions and did certain exercises.

We recorded how many breaths they took. Then the kids filled out their graphs.

Our second respiratory lab showed the path of oxygenated blood, as well as the path of blood which lacked oxygen.

And finally, we completed the respiratory system with a craft from our Scholastic Easy Make & Learn Human Body book. Using our craft, we discussed how the rib cage and diaphragm work together to draw in and force out air from the chest cavity.
