Today was a simple day. C is not feeling well and J is starting to get sick too.

Here they are working today:

They weren't ready for school to end so I whipped out their Toy Story 3 Memory game! It started out nicely until the kids insisted that we had to keep them all neat and put the cards back down in different places. It made for an... interesting game.

After two very long games we put it all away. C was not pleased. Her big brother gave her a squeeze and told her she'd be ok and they could play again tomorrow, which made her smile through her tears.

Successful day and Soccer!

I didn't think today would be a very successful day with school since I had two crabby kids on my hands. But it really turned out great!

Today we did this:

C working diligently tracing lines... or so I thought!
Caught scribbling all over her page!

J practicing his letter "Ss"

Gleefully making a mess...

Then I got the bright idea to give C a dry erase marker and a one of those dry erase books to practice writing. And she did FABULOUS! For some reason she decided it was important to follow the lines. Hey, whatever works!

Working!

J doing his math work (subtraction)

Drawing shapes

Working on a maze

Cheese!

J also joined a soccer team as part of his PE portion of school. Yesterday was his first practice and game! He even scored a goal!

He is number 11!

Our First Day "Not Back to School!"

Today we had our first official day of Kindergarten for J and preschool for C.

We started off with our usual field trip to the library. (I forgot my camera- boo!) We packed lunch in their cool new lunch boxes and took their backpacks with us.

Our selection this week
While out we stopped for an oh-so-educational trip to TJ Maxx. We picked up a box to store our favorite homeschooling papers and projects.

Once we got home, J did some math work- addition and subtraction! (note his new glasses!)

Then he did some practice writing/phonics with the letter "Dd"
And lastly, he read to me!
C's instructions were to trace the lines. She did well at first with the circles but then decided to do her own thing and scribble on both sheets.

Then she read to me
"Once upon a time, there was a screaming little angel..."
We have also officially named our homeschool! Our children attend Oak Ridge Academy! We will be ordering IDs and maybe even t-shirts too!

Back to school sales!!

I went into Staples today where, as a homeschooling mom, they let me sign up for the Teachers Rewards! I was able to buy 25 packs of index cards (100 cards each), 25 packs of highlighters (2 per pack) and 25 packs of pencils (8 pencils per pack) for only $0.10 each!! If you aren't a teacher the limit on everything was 2 but teachers had a limit of 25 each. I also got 14 spiral notebooks (1 subject each; staples brand) for $0.15 each. There was a lady there who told me about the rewards program who was a former homeschooling teacher that now teaches at a private school. I donated some of my purchases to her but I'll also be sending some of what I have left to my sister (college student) :)

DH & I also each got a 4g flash drive for $5 each. And there was a coupon in our circular $5 off of $25 purchase.

All in all we got some GREAT deals. At Staples we spent $30 and saved $66!

We also hit Toys R Us & Walmart for some other needed supplies. J got a brand new backpack, lunchbox and 5 folders, and C got a new lunchbox and 4 folders. We also purchased containers to hold their sandwiches in their lunchboxes, thermoses, construction paper, crayons and glue. I LOVE back to school sales!!!
